Rankin Fitch: You think your average juror is King Solomon? No, he’s a roofer with a mortgage. He wants to go home and sit in his Barcalounger and let the cable TV wash over him. And this man doesn’t give a single, solitary droplet about truth, justice or your American way.

Runaway Jury

The poor roofer with a mortgage. He gets a bad rap. He works hard and does what he is supposed to do. He has created a life for himself with a family and a home. He pays his taxes and even votes in the election. He sent a guy to Washington to look after the country while he works daily to pay his mortgage and taxes. He’s tired. Now he gets his Social Security statement in the mail and the Social Security Administration is admitting that the government is dead broke and will not be able to fund his retirement. He realizes, “There’s something rotten in Washington.”

I believe that the roofer with a mortgage as well as many other Americans are waking up to what the political class in the country has done in the past 50 years. We sent these guys to Washington D.C. to do a job and paid them well for it. They have failed. The economy is in the toilet, Social Security is busted, unemployment is the highest we seen in our lifetime and yet they are trying to pit us against one another. I have come to believe that it is not Bush vs. Obama, Democrat vs. Republican, Liberal vs. Conservative, or haves vs. have nots. Historically a staunch Republican supporter, I became disillusioned with the party after Bush ushered in the bailouts of 2008. Obama has continued the Bush policies and even kept the same key people in power. Social Security is still broken and now they want to take over health care.

The 2010 elections were encouraging, however Washington still has not gotten the message. I follow Obama on Twitter and I feel like my intelligence is being insulted with every tweet. Now I hear mumblings about the Republicans putting up Jeb Bush for president in 2012 and I think, “Seriously, after the McCain fiasco, they’re going to try to put up another Bush for president. They just don’t get it!”

How stupid are these people? How stupid do they think we are? How stupid are we for putting up with their shenanigans? How is it that Social Security is not funded correctly. We need to demand action. It’s not rocket science. It’s simple math. Take the zeros off and my children could figure it out.

Hopefully this blog will be an outlet for my frustration. I plan to look at 3 areas. How we got here. Who’s responsible. What’s happening now.

I invite discussion. I’m not saying I’ve got it all figured out, but I’m going to. I’m a roofer with a mortgage and I do care about truth, justice and the American way. For too long we have assumed the people we sent to Washington D.C. were doing the job we sent them to do. Now we need to waken and ensure we are getting our money’s worth from these rascals we are sending to Washington.
